Multipurpose Tree Nurseries at Rurii and Murungaru (Nyandarua County)
FLOBF has strategically established multipurpose tree nurseries in Rurie and Murungaru, Nyandarua County, as part of its broader environmental conservation and community livelihood improvement efforts. Our nurseries have successfully produced over 300,000 seedlings, including a diverse range of indigenous, commercial, and fruit tree species. This substantial output is a key component of our goal to plant and nurture 1 million trees around Lake Ol-Bolossat ecosystem and western Aberdares. The initiative aims not only to support large-scale reforestation but also to empower local communities through sustainable farming practices.
By providing seedlings to farmers, schools, and community organizations, FLOBF facilitates agroforestry practices that integrate trees into agricultural systems, improving soil fertility, reducing erosion, and enhancing biodiversity. To date, we have also donated over 5,000 fruit and indigenous tree seedlings, and conducted 24 educational workshops on tree planting and cultivation, contributing directly to forest restoration and climate resilience in the region.
